BIRTH CONTROL

BIRTH CONTROL PILLS /A combined Oral Contraceptive Pill (OCP) containing derivatives of the female hormone Oestrogen and Progestin in low doses as Ethynyl Estradiol and Levonogestrel. Should be taken daily to avoid a pregnancy. Consistent and correct use provides you with 99.9% effectiveness.
If you are starting pills for the first time, consult a doctor and have an idea about which birth controlmethod is most suitable on you .Sometimes pills may not be suitable for you.
Talk to your doctor about which brand is best for you.
and have an idea about side effect , benefit , who can not use birth control pills and how it works ..
side effect :
Nausea
Weight gain
Sore or swollen breasts
Small amount of blood, or spotting, between periods
Lighter periods
Mood changes
The pill will help my acne.

If you experience Abdominal pain (stomach pain) ,Chest pain,Headaches (severe),Eye problems (blurred vision),Swelling and/or aching in the legs and thighs any of these symptom please go to a doctor or hospital as soon as possible because These symptoms may indicate a serious disorder, such as liver disease, gallbladder disease, stroke, blood clots, high blood pressure, or heart disease.

Birth control pills can be taken safely by most women, but is not recommended for women who are over the age of 35 and smoke. If you don't smoke, you can use hormonal contraceptives until menopause. In addition, you should not take hormonal contraceptives if you have had:

Blood clots in the arms, legs, or lungs
Serious heart or liver disease
Cancer of the breast or uterus
If you are not sure if you are affected by one of these conditions, ask your doctor. Also, inform your doctor if you have a first-degree relative (parent, brother, sister, child) who has had blood clots in the legs or lungs. so after talk with your doctor he will advised to you about best birth control method for you ..
if he advised you to take birth control pills you can have those tablets fallowing instruction of those brand and doctors advises !

In Sri Lanka the most popularly used local brand is 'Mithuri'. There are also other commercial preparations available. Mithuri or normaly any birth control pill Each packet contains 21 hormonal (yellow) tablets and 7 brown tablets (non hormonal, usually containing iron). Each of the 21 tablets contain the same amount of oestrogen and progesterone.It is a tablet taken daily by mouth.
it is taken for 28 consecutive days, at approximately the same time of day Ideally, the mithuri tablet should be started on the first day of menstrual bleeding, but can be started up to day five without the need for extra protection.
start with the first yellow (hormonal) tablet .Follow the arrows indicated at the back of the pack.
Take 1 tablet per day at the same time preferably at night.

When you finish the yellow tablets start taking the brown (iron) tablets.

Bleeding (menses) will usually occur when taking the brown tablets. Even if you start bleeding when taking these brown tablets you must continue.

Start a new pack as soon as you finish one pack. There should be no break in between pill intake.
Pills should be taken even if you do not have regular sexual intercourse.


If 1 yellow pill is missed -Take 1 pill (the pill you forgot) as soon as possible and that day’s pill at the usual time (2 pills in one day). Then continue taking the rest of the pills daily
If you follow this, you are protected from an unwanted pregnancy.

If 2 yellow pills missed –Take 1 pill as soon as possible and that day’s pill at the usual time (2 pills in one day) Then continue taking the rest of the pills daily
If you follow this, you are protected from an unwanted pregnancy.

If 3 or more yellow pills missed from the first 2 rows - Take 1 pill as soon as possible and that day’s pill at the usual time (2 pills in one day).Then continue the packet until it is over. Use a condom or avoid sexual intercourse for next 7 days as you are not protected from an unwanted pregnancy
If you have had unprotected sexual intercourse (without using a condom) in last 5 days - take “Postinor 2” as well

If 3 or more yellow pills missed from third row –Discard packet & start a new packet. Start the first yellow pill as soon as possible and the second pill at the usual time on the same day (two pills in one day). Then continue the packet until over. Use a condom or avoid sexual intercourse for the next 7 days
If you have had unprotected sexual intercourse (without using a condom) in the last 5 days - take “Postinor 2” as well

If brown pills missed –Throw away the forgotten pills & continue the remaining pills. Start a new packet when brown pills are over

Keep another type of birth control, like condoms, on hand in case you forget to take a pill.
